Served with the Persian expedition in 1857, and with the Central India Field Force in 1857 and 1858, under he command of Major general Sir Hugh Rose, K.C.B.; was present at the capture of Dhar, 31st October, 1857 - actions at Mundescore, 21st, 22nd and 24th November 1857 - capture of Chandaree, 17th March, 1858 - seige and capture of Jhansi, 5th April - action at Kooach, 7th May - battle of Golowlee, 22nd May - advance on and capture of Calpee, and pursuit of rebels, 23rd May - and recapture of town and fortress of Gwalior, 19th June, 1858.
